Overview
Curvature of the penis is called Peyronie's disease. This disease
was first documented by a French physician named Francois de la
Peyroni, whom had discovered that scar tissues in the penis could
result in significant bending. It affects men primarily between
the ages of forty to sixty. Curvature of the penis alone is not
harmful, but occasionally, severe bending would makes intercourse
difficult or impossible.
Cause
The cause of Peyronie's disease is not well understood. Some theories
have suggested that Peyronie's disease is due to fibrosis (thickening)
of the outer covering of the penis due to the subsequent scarring
of injured penis. Some intense sexual positions and practices can
have damaged the penis and produced scarring. When scar tissue develops,
it can restrict or impede normal pathway for the blood flow and
reduce the elasticity of the penis in the area affected, resulting
bending of the penis.
