Reflexology
This is a 20th century version of an ancient healing and relaxation technique that's probably as old or older than acupuncture. Dr. William Fitzgerald, an American ear, nose, and throat specialist, who talked about reflexology as "zone therapy", developed western reflexology. However, reflexology has been used and practiced in Egypt, India, Africa, China, and even Japan. The feet play as guides to the organs with pressure points that stimulate the life force. By applying pressure to certain parts of the feet, reflexologists can ease pain and tension and restore the body's life force. Reflexologists don't limit themselves to the feet, however. Reflexologists will also work on hands and ears as guides to the organs to detect the illnesses. Reflexology's goal is to release the flow of energy through the body's pathways. When this energy is trapped for some reason, illness can result. When the energy is released, the body can begin to heal itself. A reflexologist views the foot as a microcosm of the entire body. Applying pressure to a specific area of the foot stimulates the movement of energy to the corresponding body part.
