Abortion-  It is the non-spontaneous termination of a pregnancy before the fetus can survive outside the uterus.

Acetone-  a colorless liquid; normally produced in the body in small quantities. Larger quantities are produced if there is a lack of insulin in the body, such as the case with diabetes or starvation.

Acquired Immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS)-  a disease that weakens the immune system of an individual caused by the infection of the HIV virus.  Therefore the individual is subject to opportunistic infections in which the body cannot fight off.

Acupuncture-  a traditional ancient Chinese method of treating diseases as well as relieving body pain.  It involves inserting sterile needles into specific points of the body.  The patient is conscious throughout the whole treatment.  Acupuncture is known to have cured disease and relieved pain where western medicine have failed.  To find out more, see U-Healthy's section on Acupuncture.

Addiction-  being abnormally dependent on something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming (especially alcohol or narcotic drugs).  Click here for more info on how to fight addictions.

Adenocarcinoma-  cancer tumors that arise from mucous secreting cells in the body.  See U-Healthy's cancer site for more info.

Allergy-  it is a condition where the body reacts very sensitively to a particular substance(s) which are usually antigens (type of protein).  

Alternative Medicine-  it is a term used to describe health care practices that come from a wide variety of cultures, are intended to restore health, and are not a part of common medical practice in the United States.

Alzheimer's disease-  it is a condition affecting the brain, resulting in a rapid and severe deterioration of mental capacities.  It commonly occurs in the elderly age population.

Arthritis-  it is a joint disorder characterized by pain, swelling, and limited movement.  Arthritis may be caused by inflammation or infection in a joint, degeneration of a joint , or a disorder of which arthritis is a symptom.

Baldness-  a term that describes partial or complete loss of hair.  It happens a lot more in males than females.  Topical minoxidil treatment may be successful in retarding further hair loss or inducing some re-growth in certain individuals with male pattern baldness.

Biopsy-  the removal of a small piece of living tissue for the purpose of examining it under a microscope to see whether disease is present.

Bladder Cancer-  see U-Healthy's cancer site on bladder cancer.

Blood count, complete-  Complete blood count (CBC) is a common series of blood tests that include a red blood cell count, a white blood cell count, a differential white cell count, a platelet count, and a blood smear, which reports any abnormalities in the red blood cells.

Bone marrow transplant-  see U-Healthy's cancer site on bone marrow transplant.

Brain Cancer-  malignant tumors that arise in the brain.  See brain cancer.

Breast Cancer-  tumors that arise in the breast(s).  More common in female than in males.  See breast cancer.
